Emotional consistency isn’t about staying calm all game.
It’s about noticing what’s happening, resetting quickly, and staying connected to the next moment.
These are four simple prompts we use inside our sports performance journals to help teen athletes prepare, respond, reflect and grow.
1. My reset when I need to is:
Every player gets thrown off during a game — a mistake, a call, or a missed opportunity.
The difference is whether they have a reset ready.
- One deep breath
- “Next job”
- Clap hands and refocus
- Reset body language

2. I’ll be a positive influence on the game by:
This shifts focus from pressure to impact.
Instead of “Am I playing well?” → “How am I helping the team?”
- Encouraging teammates
- Communicating clearly
- Bringing energy
- Staying composed
3. What challenged me & what actions did I take or need to take?
This moves players beyond “good” or “bad”.
- What challenged me?
- How did I respond?
- What will I do next time?

4. Moments I’m proud of:
Confidence is built from recognising effort and growth.
- Resetting after a mistake
- Supporting a teammate
- Staying composed
- Trying something new
Build the habit before the big moment
Our journals help athletes prepare, reflect and build the mental skills that drive consistent performance.
